FLAME SCANNER / FLAME DETECTOR / COMBUSTION CHAMBER

 Flame Detector  Flame Scanner

During the initial setting, a signal must be sent to the control system indicating the presence or absence of flame.  For this reason, a flame control system consisting of four sensors installed on four combustion units (chambers no. 4 and 5, and chambers 10 and 11) and an electronic amplifier installed in the turbine control panel is used.

An ultraviolet flame detector is a flame detector with a gas-filled detector.  A flame sensor detector is sensitive to the presence of ultraviolet rays emitted by a gaseous hydrocarbon flame.  A DC voltage supplied by the amplifier is applied to the probe terminals.  If there is a flame, ionizing the gas in the detector allows it to communicate with the circuit, which activates the electronics to provide an output that detects the flame.

Conversely, the absence of flame creates its opposite, which in no way defines fire.  After the flame is established, if the voltage returns to the sensors indicating the loss (or absence) of the flame, a signal is sent to the turbine electronic control circuit, the starter auxiliary relay.

Burnout or loss of flame is also indicated in alarm.  If flame loss is detected by only one flame detection sensor, the control circuits will report only that conditions

SPARK PLUGS

Spark plugs ignite gas or diesel (fuel) in the gas turbine chamber for first ignition.

Spark plug

Combustion is initiated by two high-voltage electrode spark plugs mounted in combustion chambers 13 and 14 on the GT GE frame 9e.

Spring plugs are injection and compression actuated by spark plugs.  A spark, when one or both of these spark plugs fire, ignites the gases in the chamber.  Other units are fed through tubes connecting the interaction areas of other units.

As the rotor speed increases, the chamber pressure causes the spark plug to retract and the electrode to withdraw from the combustion zone.                                          High voltage spark plug ⚡ disconnection requires special attention.

Dual fuel nozzles (liquid/gas)

Each burner unit is equipped with a fuel nozzle that injects the required amount of fuel into the burner line.  Gas or oil-burning gas turbines use dual-capacity fuel injectors, which have the ability to switch between fuel types (dual-fuel cabin).  A fuel nozzle delivers liquid and/or gaseous fuel to the reaction zone of the combustion line, promoting uniform, rapid and complete combustion.

Combustion chambers

Liquid-fueled air is used to help create a well-distributed mist.

Liquid fuel and atomized air enter the fuel nozzle assembly in separate connections.  It is then introduced into the air mass through separate but targeted pathways.  Fuel enters the internal passage.

Fuel gas enters the fuel nozzle assembly through the fuel gas distribution flange and passes through the internal passages of the nozzle to the gas tip openings.

    Crossfire tube

Fourteen combustion chambers are connected to each other by cross tubes.  These tubes allow the flame to spread from hot to unheated parts.
